What will supernatural season 8 be about

While the episode answered a lot of lingering questions about the motivations of the angels, the nature of the trials and the solidity of the brothers' relationship, it didn't address some of the inconsistencies that we've seen this season, such as the mysterious figure watching Sam in the premiere I guess we're just supposed to assume it was Amelia's husband ; the gaffe about the Grand Canyon; Sam not looking for Dean in Purgatory Sam's reasoning on that one was always a little too murky ; Kevin's description of Metatron as an archangel; and how Crowley actually managed to capture Kevin when he was so well-hidden why weren't the windows broken?!

I know some viewers had grand theories about timeline resets and that Sam and Dean's perceptions were being altered, but at this point, it just seems as though these were common plotholes, mistakes or character choices, which is a little disappointing, but not altogether unrealistic for a show that's been running for eight seasons. Employ better use of the Superwiki next season, writers!

Overall, though, Season 8 lived up to its fan-made moniker of "Season gr8," and was a huge improvement over the sloppiness and depressiveness of Seasons 6 and 7. The brothers seem well and truly united and refocused on the family business, Castiel and Crowley both have a number of potential paths for character evolution next season, and we have a new and surprisingly creepy big bad in the form of Metatron.

It'll be a long summer, but I can't wait for Season 9. What say you? News U. Politics Joe Biden Congress Extremism. Special Projects Highline. HuffPost Personal Video Horoscopes. Follow Us. Here's what Collins had to say of his character in 'Supernatural' season A recent string of episodes really upped the show's game too, with last week's 'Clip Show' culminating in the shock death of Taylor Cole's Sarah Blake. The stakes are high, the threat is real, and with Sam Jared Padalecki far from his physical peak and Dean Jensen Ackles and Castiel Misha Collins on the outs, can our heroes present a united front to thwart Crowley Mark Sheppard?

The episode opens with Crowley closing in on the Winchesters' long-time ally Sheriff Jody Mills Kim Rhodes - all bets were off after last week's bloodbath, but the King o' Hell agrees to spare Mills in exchange for the demon tablet.

Sam and Dean don't play along with their nemesis though - shackling him with a set of demonic handcuffs and planning to make him the subject of their third trial. If I'm honest, it's a twist I saw coming, but the idea of a "cured" Crowley remains fascinating and Mark Sheppard's bravura turn as the character's long-lost humanity starts to surface is the highlight of the episode.

Elsewhere, with the mysterious Metatron Curtis Armstrong taken out of action by Naomi Amanda Tapping and her goons, Castiel is forced to turn to the Winchesters for help, but Dean's still sore following Cas's latest round of poor decision-making Dean and Castiel's relationship is, of course, eventually healed for the gazillionth time - yeah, we've seen it all before, but Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins remain a terrific on-screen pairing and you can't help but get caught up in this bromantic soap opera every single time.
